Cardiac emergencies, such as acute myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, and congestive heart failure, require immediate medical attention to prevent irreversible damage or death. In emergency units, nurses play a crucial role in the initial assessment, stabilization, and management of patients with cardiac emergencies (Akpan et al., 2023). Proper training and preparedness of nurses in handling cardiac emergencies are essential for improving patient outcomes and ensuring timely interventions (Ezeani & Nnamani, 2024).
In Benue State, the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases has been increasing, with a corresponding rise in the number of patients presenting with cardiac emergencies. However, there is a concern regarding the preparedness of nurses in emergency units to effectively handle such situations. Limited resources, insufficient training, and high patient volumes may compromise the ability of nurses to provide optimal care during cardiac emergencies. This study aims to evaluate the preparedness of nurses in managing cardiac emergencies in emergency units of hospitals in Benue State.
The increasing number of cardiac emergencies in Benue State hospitals highlights the need for well-prepared nurses who can effectively manage these situations. Despite the importance of timely interventions, there are concerns about the adequacy of nurse training and resources to handle cardiac emergencies. This study seeks to assess the preparedness of nurses in Benue State hospitals and evaluate how well-equipped they are to respond to cardiac emergencies in emergency units.
This study will focus on nurses working in emergency units of hospitals in Benue State, specifically evaluating their preparedness to manage cardiac emergencies. Limitations may include the variability in training programs across hospitals and the potential difficulty in measuring preparedness through observational methods.
